So yeah, PSN never went down today and sony hasn't said anything about a new date. But it will go down sometime in the future and most likely with no great notice.

update, the maintenance is happening tomorrow (3/4/12) at 3 PM Eastern and expected to last until 5 AM Eastern the following morning.
No PSN services will be usable during this time including online play.
