Valkyria Chronicles 3 is just a bit over two months away from Japanese release, and Sega has started off some major promotions for the game. Over the past week, the company has been holding demo events and press conferences to fill in all the missing pieces.
As previously reported, Valkyria 3 is the second PSP entry in the dramatic strategy series that first debuted on the PlayStation 3. We received part 2 in August, but Japan has been playing it since January, making the timing of part 3's January 27 Japanese release seem a bit more reasonable.
Sega gathered the press in Tokyo electronics capital Akihabara yesterday to announce some of its promotional plans for the game.
Sega and Good Smile Company are teaming up to create a couple of Nendoroid figures for heroines Riela and Imuka. Pricing was not announced, but the figures are due for March release.
Sega is also readying a two part animation for the game. This will feature the same voice cast as the game and will be released first through PlayStation Network, also in Spring. Of course, Valkyria Chronicles is no stranger to anime, as the first entry saw a more substantial conversion.
More directly tied to the game, Sega has announced some bonus download content. Buyers of either the retail or digital download version will get a download code for downloading an episode called "Chapter 0: Kurt's First Campaign." This tells the story of main character Kurt Irving's first campaign, which is something that you won't find elsewhere in the game.
Producer Shinji Motoyama has confirmed that additional download content is under consideration. During a fan demo event earlier this week, he said that the game does have the infrastructure in place, as evidenced by the Chapter 0 bonus, but nothing has been decided. If they do end up releasing download content, the staff would like to respond to fan requests regarding the type of episodes, Motoyama told fans at the event.
Finally, the best promotional item of all: a demo! Sega released a Valkyria 3 demo to PlayStation Store earlier today. Those with access to a Japanese PlayStation Store account can access the demo directly. Japanese games site 4gamer has also posted the demo online so you can also access it there (the link is the pink button midway through the page).
Valkyria Chronicles 3 is due for Japanese release on January 27. Release plans for the rest of the world have yet to be announced.

I wish it came out for PS3.
