I don't really care since I never used the Google Toolbar since I'm good with just using the search box on the upper right.
More information about the discontinuing of the Google Firefox toolbar is available here: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/07/google-toolbar-for-firefox-has-been.html
Indeed, It stinks for people who still want to use the Google Toolbar.
It also kind of stinks for Firefox since Firefox earns money via Adsense every time some one clicks on sponsored results and for every 1000 views from searches made from the Google Toolbar on Firefox.
I think the Internet Explorer 9 and below version of Google Toolbar is not being discontinued. But, I won't be surprised if the IE version gets discontinued soon as well unless Google is using the IE Google bar to promote Google Chrome and Google Products to IE users.
You can drag your search box to the Bookmark toolbar in Firefox by right clicking firefox in a gray area, and picking customize then Drag your Search box to the left of the Firefox Bookmark toolbar in Firefox.
Now Firefox search box will be on the left of your Firefox bookmark toolbar.
