I know these are two very different devices, but I'm always looking for an excellent portable emulator and I'm also attracted to some of the games on Vita like Persona 4 and Danganronpa 2. What would you guys recommend?

I'm not sure how good the shield is but the Vita's a decent system, you seem to have an interest. I'd go for it if I was you. Enough indie stuff to keep you amused.

I think the Shield will be best for emulators because the Vita does not support emulators for older consoles like the N64, PSX, Gameboy, etc, but the Shield uses Android which has emulators for emulating games.

If you have a good wireless router, and Gaming PC or laptop with a newer Nvidia video card like the Nvidia GTX 650, you can also stream Steam PC games to the Shield handheld, and tablet with Nvidia Gamestream.

The Nvidia Shield can also play re-makes and ports of console and PC games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Final Fantasy 1-3, Portal, Half-Life 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted, etc which been ported to work with the Shield, and the Shield controller.

I think the Vita TV/Playstation TV looks like a better deal than the Vita because you can play games on a big TV.
