Today, Sony released a spec sheet for PlayStation Vita, one that has some disappointing news in it for those excited about the successor to the PlayStation Portable's follow-up.
Vita will use a lithium ion battery. The battery life for Vita when gaming is 3-5 hours. Watching video will deplete your Vita's battery life in 5 hours. Using it to listen to music will allow Vita's battery to last 9 hours (if you listen to music while in standby mode). It will take you 2 hours and 40 minutes to charge Vita from a completely depleted state to 100% battery life.
There are other interesting details in the spec sheet worth noting. The 3G version of Vita is actually slightly heavier than its wi-fi-only counterpart, and includes a sim card slot that's obviously not going to be included on the wi-fi version. The Vita's camera is capable of 120 frames-per-second at 320x240 resolution and 60 frames-per-second at 640x480 resolution.
In terms of file types Vita can handle, they are as follows. Music: MP3, MPEG 1/2, MP4, .WAV. Video: MPEG-4, AAC. Picture: JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF and PNG.

3-5 hours? Vita isn't for long trips. but then again nyko will probably release a longer lasting battery pack.
