When Microsoft released the Beta of Windows 7 in January, it released a set of recommended system requirements for the Beta (which its officials noted were subject to change). On April 30, concurrent with the beginning of the delivery of the Release Candidate, Microsoft released the final system requirements for Windows 7.

Here are the minimum Windows 7 requirements Microsoft offered in January when it released the Beta:

* 1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1GB of RAM
* 16 GB of available disk space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)

Here are the minimum Windows 7 system requirements Microsoft released on April 30 when it made available the Release Candidate to MSDN and TechNet testers:

* 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
* 1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
* 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of avaiable disk space (64-bit)
* DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Note: If you are planning to run Windows XP Mode along with Windows 7, Microsoft is recommending a PC with a minimum of 2GB of memory and 15 GB of additional disk space. “In addition, Windows Virtual PC requires a PC with Intel-VT or AMD-V enabled in the CPU, as it takes advantage of the latest advancements in hardware virtualization,â€￾ according to company officials.

QUOTE (froggyboy604 @ May 02, 2009 01:48 pm) Seems kind of high, but I suppose it is reasonable for a newer Windows OS.
Its not reasonable at all, Im running a newer OS, and its minimum is 256, with a recommended of 350, and a CPU of 300 MHz

Well, atleast windows made a OS with requirements that are not too out of reach for most computers built in 2006-2009. I'm surprised that Windows did not make the requirements higher since windows is not well known for OS that do not require a lot of CPU speed or ram.

I agree that it is not reasonable when compared to other OSes like Ubuntu.

Yeah, they have been known in the past for -okay- systems, but Ive always had them slow down to a crawl...

They won't be high specs when W7 is officially released since most newer PC you buy at a big computer seller like bestbuy have a computer with a 2 GHZ CPU or better, 1 GB or more RAM and a 350 GB or more HD Space.

Even the cheapest computer at Bestbuy canada Website: $394. Have 3GB of RAM, and 2.2GHZ CPU, 500GB Hard drive.
NV Geforce 7050 integrated card.

Windows 7 will be mostly be sold with a computer since most people do not upgrade their OS themselves since it can be kind of a hassle. Plus, Operating Systems usually cost more if you buy it by itself without a computer.

For example, Windows Vista Home Premium cost $249 at BB canada if you buy it alone: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.a...052&catid=21236
