With reports that the Nintendo 3DS has a maximum battery of roughly five hours, accessory manufacturer Nyko is filling the gap with the Power Pak+ and Charge Base, a new rechargeable battery system.

The Power Pak+ is an add-on battery pack for the Nintendo 3DS that clips onto the handheld and can be charged using the same power adapter that comes bundled with the system. It provides double the playtime, but also adds extra size and weight to Nintendo's already hefty handheld.

Unfortunately the Power Pak+ is not compatible with Nintendo's dock, so Nyko has also created the Charge Base, which accommodates the added size of the Power Pak+ add-on. The Charge Base also sports LED indicators to let you know when your device is fully charged.

The Charge Base will be bundled with the Power Pak+ for $29.99, while the Power Pak+ by itself will cost $19.99. The Power Pak+ will be available at launch, March 27, while the Charge Base will release shortly thereafter.

so if this thing works without a problem, Nintendo is being out done by a 3rd party developer. which is sad.

I won't get it, the most I've ever played in a day on my DS was two hours. It would just add extra size for me.
