Even with the madness of E3 plaguing the internet, Dylan Jobe, Game Director of Warhawk, took some time to post on the official PlayStation blog today to announce some new details for the upcoming Warhawk update, version 1.4. The new update will be available for download on July 16th, 3:00 AM pacific time at no charge. Although there are a surprising number of improvements listed in the blog, including an upgraded mini-map, changes in scoring and spawn times and some gameplay tweaks, the real focus of the post was the two new gameplay modes: Hero and Collection.
Hero will randomly select one player from each team to be an Epic Hero who receives a number of buffs. The point of the mode is to defeat the opposing hero or rack up kills while you're the hero on your team. Collection, on the other hand, scatters several energy cores around the map that must be returned to a reactor for points. Depending on how many cores you carry to the reactor, you get more points.
Lastly, the post ends with an intriguing bit of information: Warhawk Trophies. Jobe notes that there will be a total of 56 Trophies in Warhawk that will be introduced with the future 1.5 update. Ten of the Trophies will be retroactive. The other 34 Trophies are new goals that can be attained in the core game. Each expansion pack (including a hinted new one) will boast four unique Trophies as well.
