More than a decade after the Watch Dogs movie was originally announced, cameras have finally begun rolling. The film was announced in 2013, but stalled multiple times. However, it's now back on and production has officially begun.

Tom Blyth, who starred in the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will play a lead. He joins Sophia Wilde, who was previously confirmed for the cast. Beyond Blyth and Wilde, there is no word yet on who else might appear in the Watch Dogs film, or when it might release.

Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark, Hostile, and assistant director on Inglourious Basterds) is directing Watch Dogs from a script by Christie LeBlanc (Oxygen). Victoria Bata (Lessons in Chemistry) also contributed to the script.

The Watch Dogs movie was originally set up at Sony Pictures but has now changed hands to New Regency. Turi is also developing a TV series based on the Plague Tale games.

The Watch Dogs game series debuted in 2014 (more than a year after the movie was announced), with sequels Watch Dogs 2 (2016) and Watch Dogs Legion (2020) following. The series used places like Chicago, San Francisco, and London as settings across the three installments, and the open-world games feature futuristic hacking and gadgetry.

Ubisoft has not announced any new Watch Dogs games. While this is a major development for the Watch Dogs movie, the long-in-development Splinter Cell and The Division movies remain MIA.

The movie's MC better be like Aiden Pierce and not like the awful Marcus Holloway.
