Does website speed matter to you? Would you hang out at a site that has lag or slowness?

Yes. If it matters to the members then definitely yeah. However Bayside Gamers aren't that fast, around 5 seconds on one page and another is 3sec however I haven't recently checked it nor definitely haven't checked Gaming latest

Website speed does matter as a website owner.

But, as a website user, I'm willing to wait a up to a minute for a website to load if I like the site's content or really need to use something on the site like accessing my webmail account on a website to open my e-mail where the e-mail website needs to load before I can read any of my e-mail messages.

Website load times are not as big of a deal for me since most I can open another web browser tab to go to another site while I wait for a site to finish loading.

It depends on what you understand by 'slow'. I can wait for around 50 seconds for a website to load if I want to read something that only that website contains. There is bound to be a little network latency if the site is hosted on servers from another continent, but if your internet speed is good, there shouldn't be a latency of more than 10 seconds.

I think as long as the text on the website loads fast, I would be satisfied since I usually don't watch the video, and don't look at images for a long amount of time since I go to websites mainly to read the articles unless I am YouTube, and other streaming video or audio streaming sites like Soundcloud.

I think one of the reasons that Reddit is popular is because a lot of people just go to reddit and similar forums to post topics, replies, and links using text which load very quickly.

Twitter may also be a popular site to visit because most of the site is text based with a few images when people post images to Twitter, and it loads pretty fast even on slower connections in my experience.

So, you think that forums should become more minimalistic in design and give up on features such as avatars and signature images?

I think forum avatars and signature images are nice when on faster connections like cable, and DSL.

It would be nice if there could be a theme/template where users can browse forums without avatars and signature images on the theme to help save bandwidth and experience faster speeds on slower mobile connections like 3G and 2G, or slower wired connections like dial-up and slower 5 Mbps or slower cable and DSL connections.
