what are the top 5 anime you love the most?

I watch anime films a little bit more than I do series, so I'll list my favourites by Studio Ghibli first:

1. Howl's Moving Castle - this was the furst Ghibli film that I saw and I loved it immediately. The story is incredible and the setting is so stunningly beautiful! Plus, the characters somehow manage to capture your heart without even trying.
2. Arietty - Something like Thumbelina with a twist! Again, the setting was incredibly beautiful and the story was just as well made as it was in Howl. Plus, it makes you think about possibilities...
3. Spirited Away - I have watched this one so long ago that I don't even remember what it was about, but I remember liking it so much. I think I should watch it again. I remember there were dragons!
4. Tales from Earthsea - This one is like Skyrim in anime, as close as it can get to Skyrim. It has an adventure and magic and dragons... and again, beautiful places.
5. From Up On the Poppy Hill - A little too long, but nevertheless, well made. I enjoyed every moment of it. And the scenery... I don't have to say it was enchanting, do I? *broad smile*

I somehow don't like long anime series. I always feel that if I start watching a long series it will either get cancelled and I'll never get to see the end or I'll get bored with it before the end, but these are few I liked:

1. Princess Sarah - this is possibly the only anime I'd watched until the very end! I'd seen it when I was a little girl and it was my first favourite. Still is.
2. Akatsuki no Yona - I started watching this one very recently, but it almost instantly became my favourite. Now I'd also found out that there is manga as well, so I thought of reading it through... I never finished the story, though. I came to episode... well, around the episode 12 or so. In the beginning, the story was amazing. Then it got even better. And then it got long.
3. Death Note - I watched this one until L died. I may have watched one or two episodes after it, but that was it. Somehow it isn't the same without it.
4. Ergo Proxy - This one takes place in future, a not very good one, but the story behind it is deep and the anime had at times become even philosophical. It is, after all, the cogito virus that infects the robots, or AutoReivs, so that they develop consciousness...
5. Walkure Romanze - I liked medieval themed stories and this one somehow managed to combine the present and the past with success. I do recommend it to all who love knights and jousting!

ohhh boy, I've watched a lot of anime soooooooo in no order:

Gundam Wing
hellsing ultimate
Code geass
Akame Ga Kill
Black Lagoon

Hmmm okay this'll be hard to narrow it down but off the top of my head my top 5 favorite would be;

Robotech (US)
Ranma 1/2
Full Metal Panic
Cowboy Bebop
Sword Art online (first half of season 1)

Honorary mention for High School of The Dead.

Very easy choice on this one for me! Not in any particular order:
  1. Higurashi - Okay, this one is in a particular order; Higurashi always goes at the top of my list. It is seriously the best anime I have ever watched, and I've seen it multiple times and still love it. I'm a psychological thriller/horror fan, and this anime had everything I could have possibly asked for in that genre.
  2. Mirai Nikki - Yanderes, yanderes everywhere...  ^_^ Another anime that had all my favorite elements in it all wrapped into one. Really incredible series, and the twists and the end were just perfection.
  3. Another - I think there's a pattern of psychological horrors forming here... Another was so delightfully creepy, but without getting really weird to a point where I was questioning everything that was going on. Plus the series had an abundance of ball-jointed dolls, which I love.
  4. Alnoah Zero - I actually just watched this one recently, but it instantly hit my favorites list. And that's saying a lot, because I'm not much of a sci-fi fan, and I'm not into the mecha genre at all. Probably one of the best animes of 2014 in my opinion. I'm watching the second season right now.
  5. Madoka Magica - This one is a real twist on the magical girl genre. Creepy, chilling, amazing. It takes an innocent genre, and innocent characters, and turns everything that it means to be a magical girl anime upside down.
Some honorable mentions: Angel Beats, Death Parade, AnoHana

I'd watched Madoka Magica as well. I must admit that I'd found myself watching it from episode to episode, waiting to find out what will happen next although there were, as you put it, chilling and creepy moments. The battles were odd and yet I kept watching. At times I didn't even know why I was still watching it, but I was: at times, I didn't even pause in between the episodes, I just kept on going. The story was so sad, with Tomoe (the black-haired girl was Tomoe, correct?) constantly trying to reverse the dark ending and change fate, but failing constantly. She just couldn't win, that is, she always ended up losing Madoka. When I'd seen that episode, my heart was breaking. It was so sad. And it explained a lot. She was my favourite Puella Magi. Who was yours?

This is a hard question. let's see now
1. Bleach
2. One Piece
3. Naruto
4. Ao no exorcist
5. Kyou kara ore wa

Yeah, it is definitely the kind of anime that gets you lured into it despite the theme. I started it before I heard all the rumors that it is so creepy so I was expecting a magical girl anime like Tokyo Mew Mew or Sailor Moon (both of which had some harsher moments but overall were very tame). I think you're thinking of Homura Akemi; she's the one with black hair who was trying to undo things. I loved her as well. For a favorite character though, I'd say Sayaka Miki. Her character arc was very interesting in my opinion, and very dark.
