I just take out my flash light, and wait for the power to come back on, or use my portable battery powered devices to entertain myself.

That's weird, I just had one yesterday. :/

I had no internet conncetion for 8 hours. xD

It was in the morning so we had our flashlights, talk and entertain each other.

lock ALL of the door locks, get the flash light, and extra batteries, locate my emergency cellphone and cash, open the windows, get the bbq lighter and light some candles, as well as the pilot light on my stove and move all of the perishable, recently purchased food items to the freezer, turn off all extraneous power drains on my Blackberry, leaving only the cell radio on, and call 311 for more info regarding the outage and if there is any news regarding the duration of the outage while sitting by my front door with a knife and my baseball bat just in case some asshole tries to take advantage of the darkness and sneak in with my fiancé. (if he is not home when the outage had occurred..) I would also curse myself for not having a land line, since it was tremendously helpful during the last blackout I've been in..

I was in a blackout back in 2003.. It was on a hot summer day in the middle of August, it lasted 3 days.. some people's power was restored the next day, however, mine was out for 3 days.. and it was hell.. The first thing that people thought was that it was a terrorist attack, and then, they thought it was hackers.. but it turned out that the power grid was overloaded.. I was with my fiancé and brother at the time and we were grateful that we had a land line since all of the cellphone circuits were busy from the time it had occurred..

We walked from Chelsea, to Midtown near the UN, and then down to South Ferry, in Manhattan. We missed the last ferry into Brooklyn, and we ended up spending $87 on a cab from the overpass onto the Manhattan Bridge to my apartment in South Brooklyn.. during our getting to where we had to go, we saw a lot of people helping each other, some people had passed out in the street because of the heat, and there was no shortage of good Samaritans to help them. While people were helping each other in the city, and making the trip across the bridges into Brooklyn from Manhattan, there were people looting the stores on the other side of the bridge and so that was why we made a point to walk across the bridge during that time of night..

After all of the walking that we did do, we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to my apartment, using only the light from our cellphones while we stumbled through a pitch black staircase..

Here is a video from that day..

I remember seeing the black out which hit New York, and Toronto, Canada. I heard people were giving out free frozen food like ice cream and Popsicles because they were melting in the stores. Whenever there is a blackout in places with lots of shops, or valuables, there tends to be a lot of looting when I watch the news here.

I also use a Dynamo flash light which I can charge by cranking a crank to charge the batteries. The down side is you have to crank it every few hour. At least, I have something to do by cranking the crank on the flash light. Sort of like this flashlight, but my crank flashlight does not have a radio.
