Now that we're past the hype and gossip, I'd love to hear what our members here think of OUYA in terms of its present and possible future state. At the time of its Kickstarter campaign when tablets were still not as standard as they are now in every household, I have to admit that I kind of liked and believed in the idea of this console, but as technology progressed further, I realized that you could easily just buy a cheap Android tablet and get to do even more besides gaming. Now I'm thinking that it's probably just a matter of time until it becomes obsolete, which is why I wonder why they are planning on releasing new versions every year.

What do you guys think of OUYA, and do you think it has a future?

Ouya has some pretty good games which you can see trailer for at its official Ouya YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/OUYAS/videos .

Games like Amazing Frog, which is available for the Ouya, will not be very fun on a tablet because Amazing Frog is an open world game where using a controller, and a TV would be more fun.

I think games like RPG, Racers, First person shooters, and fast pace action games are not fun on a touchscreen tablet, and smaller screen on tablet when you can play them on a TV with a controller on a console. Plus, holding a tablet to play games for hours will make my hand tired compared to holding a controller. Most of those cheap tablets in the $50-99 price range are also too slow for gaming because they use cheaper CPUs, less RAM like 512MB, and a slower video chip. The touch screens also may not be very good.

The Ouya and other micro-consoles like the Nvidia Shield and Amazon Fire TV are not as popular as cheap small tablets, but I think  more competitive/hardcore gamers would rather game on a micro console with a gamepad controller than a tablet or smartphone.

I think Micro-consoles like the Ouya will usually be cheaper than a tablet with a Nvidia Tegra 3,4 or K1, 1-2GB of RAM, and 8-16GB of storage because they don't have a screen, speakers, and other un-needed features like GPS, Webcam, front camera, volume buttons, and headphone jack which are needed for tablets.

Ouya, like countless other consoles launched lately, has lost its footing somewhere. It has totally lost its identity to say the least. I don't think it will be bouncing back into the limelight anytime soon. But let's not give up the hope. I hope that it finds it's footing and lost identity back.

I think it's a cute gaming system to give as a gift and to play when you want a break from the regular gaming games.

The $99 Ouya is a good first console for younger kids since giving a Kid a Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, or even many last gen consoles like the PS3 and Xbox 360 is too expensive because of $60 controllers and games.

Plus, the PS4, Xbox One, and other console don't look very durable for kids who may accidentally drop it on the floor when moving it to different rooms, or bringing it to a friends house. A lot of young kids also end up damaging stuff because they get mad, or throw stuff around the room which end up breaking stuff like TVs, consoles, etc.

A lot of kids also don't know how to properly handle Disc, so the disc would eventually be scratched, or cracked.

It was created with the best of intentions - but it is a failure and that's all it could ever have been. Quite frankly a console needs games and fire power these days and the Ouya was never going to have either of those things in suffient quantities. That said I do congratulate them on not just scamming the crap out of Kickstarter benifactors.

The Ouya was never really designed to be a power house with a very fast CPU, or Video chip like the PS4 or Xbox One. There are certain kind of games like Puzzle, Classic RPG, 2D action adventure, less intensive 3D games like the Amazing Frog, and music games.

The Ouya has 836 games according to https://www.ouya.tv/games/ , so there are probably many games for the Ouya which people may like out of the 836 games which are available on it.

The Ouya is an interesting concept, I think. Personally however, I just don't think there's enough content on the system to justify the purchase. I would much rather spend that money on other platforms and games.

From what I have seen I like the games that have FroggyBoy has posted here, and for only $99 dollars it's well worth the price. Something I really considering buying.

I don't recommended it Allen - the interface is shoddy, the console is poorly constructed, the games available aren't worth the energy it takes to track them down, and over all I'm just not sure how much thought was put into it. Still it was a decent attempt so there is that.

I have been following the Ouya YouTube channel, and the interface changes have been slowly getting better with each downloadable update for the Ouya according to YouTube videos on the official YouTube. Also, Ouya has been making it easier for people to find good games for it. All you need to do is follow their YouTube Channel, and they upload YouTube trailers of their best game for YouTube.

The newer 16GB Ouya versions which is colored white, and black has more responsive controllers, and 16GB of space, so Ouya is listening to user feedback on improving the features for the consol, and controllers design to make it more responsive and better to use compared to the Kickstarter versions.

Oh man, I remember such the intense hype for this device. I can't say I ever considered getting it myself, but it was interesting in concept. That said, who knew it was going to be such an immense disappointment. I actually wouldn't be too surprised to see a few of these consoles at Value Village's or thrift stores in the future.

Like I said though, great in concept. Just didn't end up working out.

Ashen's from YouTube got his Ouya from a Second Hand Thirft store, so if you live in a big city, it maybe best to look at places like Value Village, the Salvation Army thirft store, pawn shops for the Ouya. His experience with the Ouya was okay according to the video, but sideloading non-official apps like Netflix, and games like GTA vice city were not as good.

To me its something you would play if you really couldn't afford anything else. Even then I think your better off taking the $100 and looking for a used 360 on Craig's List. The games are primitive at best.

I agree the Ouya is something gamers would play if they can't afford anything better, or you can't afford the $60 games for regular consoles.

There are some free games for the Ouya, games which cost $1-5+. Side-loading free games, emulators , and free games with micro-transactions like Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8 is not hard if you know how to install apk app installer files in Android.

I think 2D and Pixel games like Pac-Man, Pong, Tetris, and Snakes are one of the best game categories for Ouya because you don't need to buy a more expensive console like the Xbox One to play games which are in 2D and Pixel games which play well on the Ouya.
