So what exactly does the jailbreak do for the PS3? Have any of you tried it?

I lack knowledge in this, I know with iDevices, jailbreak gives you root access but what about with the PS3?

As for the PS3, it allows, in simplistic terms, to pirate games... As well as access and install linux or other operating systems onto the PS3... There are various other features, but that is it in a nutshell...

It could get you banned on PSN and if you do not know what you are doing, you can really mess up your system... Not kidding by the way... Although most of your mistakes can be corrected by a complete format and restore...

It depends on your gaming style, but unless you want to come to terms with an entire new way of thinking... E.g. you do not simply go online when it is jailbroken, you must follow certain guidelines, get new patches for the game etc through other means...

There is also the letter that can sometimes come through the mail that states that you have infringed copyright etc... So all in all it can be a pain if you do not know what you are doing...

In fairness, if you are not a constant gamer, I would suggest that you merely purchase the games second hand... It is not that expensive for some releases and could save you a lot of time and annoyance...

The primary reason for jailbreaking any device is to install cracked applications. But it can also be used to backup your games. For instance, if you're a bit clumsy and have the habit of lending your games to careless friends, this feature comes in really handy as it allows you to back up the entire game onto your hard drive so you can play it whenever without the need of a disc. You will lose online play but for games without a multiplayer features, it won't make a huge difference. This method also let's you distribute the ripped games which is illegal.

Depends on what you want to do with it. You can make it so you can get free games, hack online, etc. Tampering with the system itself is not illegal, but the things I mentioned are.

You could jailbreak your PS3, but it's honestly not worth the trouble. Last I heard, you'd get banned from PSN in a jiffy, and I'm sure you don't want that. So yeah.

Jailbreaking basically allows your PS3 to accept and play pirated games, but I am not sure if that is even possible for the PS3 up till today. Even if you managed to, where would you actually find pirated BluRay games? Doubt they are that easy to reporduce. But anyway, jailbreaking your devices are illegal and may damage your console permanently. I suggest no one ever tries to jailbreak their devices but instead buy originals to support and appreciate the hard work that console and game engineers have put into giving us such a wonderful gaming experience! Cheers!

I'm not 100% sure about this, but isn't it also possible to use cheats on games with a jailbreak? I heard that from a friend, but wanted to know if that was true or not. It would explain some weird stuff I've seen on MW3 videos on youtube.
