Fortnite has died down quite a lot recently which is a shame. I used to really like playing it.

Probably one of the most popular games these days is call of duty. With the most recent release of call of duty cold war being what most people on playing on playstation and even xbox. It's got a huge community behind it. Most people play multiplayer which can be quite fun and sometimes addictive. The multiplayer experience is amazing.

Sad to see Fortnite die down a lot. I remember reading that Fortnite was used to show movies and concerts, so I thought these virtual events will attract more casual PS4 gamers to Fortnite.
I feel Minecraft is probably popular because there is a huge fanbase, mods, and more parents of younger kids may feel Minecraft is more educationsl and less violent than Fortnite, and other games.
Fortnite being banned on Apple App store, and Google Play can be one of the reason for Fortnite to be less popular.
Donald Trump also wanted to ban Fortnite Trump Administration Reportedly Looking Into Fortnite and League of Legends Studios After TikTok and WeChat Bans which may of csused Fortnite to die down with more conservative Trump supporters.

If we're looking at player count, it would be crossfire or PUBG. When I looked it up I was surprised to see that many in the top 10 are free-to-play games I've never heard of

Kind of. I don't think skins being added to the game of certain characters were problematic but then it started creeping into the storyline and gameplay. The game just became a huge ad for Marvel at one point.
