What is this bug that was in my car?

I wasn't able to take a picture of it but I will describe it. It looked exactly like a mosquito, however it was slightly larger than a housefly. It's not a daddy long legs because I know what they look like. I thought it may be a male mosquito but I googled and male mosquitos are the same size.

The only difference body-wise is it didn't have the proboscis that female mosquitos have.
 
Found it!! nothing for size reference but ever so slightly larger than a house fly.

I don't mind insects or spiders, but it creeped me out because i couldn't tell what it was. I am in America. Northeast. It's way to big to be a mosquito, and I don't think it's a dragonfly because they have 2 sets of wings and this had one. I am so confused. I can't figure out what it is and it's killing me lol.

Could be carrying that new zika (sp?) virus.
