What is your favorite instrumental from a video game?

Since there's a thread here about your favorite song from a video game, which I took to mean something with lyrics, I figured I'd start one for instrumentals. :whistling:

Battle themes are awesome. But this one was scored for a stageplay early in Final Fantasy IX, where the characters were supposed to pretend to fight. It's melodramatic, in a style that well suited the sort of medieval fantasy steampunk that was the setting of the game.

Not that Final Fantasy is exactly a niche here, but I personally think that song above is underrated. Of course, it's not as if I play it for every occasion, or any occasion really. It's not really something I like to listen to in the car, or surfing the net.

Nobuo Uematsu left some large shoes to fill when he left the staff of the future releases of Final Fantasy, and it's true that FFXII underwhelmed me music-wise even though I loved absolutely every other facet of it. "Blinded By Light" on the other hand: The main melody is so catchy, it's soulful and soaring, and the accompaniment is a sonic version of a cornucopia. It sounds as if it has every instrument that you can name playing at the same time, and... I think it works!

How about you? Obviously, you can pick more than one. Let's keep it down to three, if you're embedding something for us all to listen to, eh?  Also, please use SPOILER TAGS if embedding. Not to keep them from spoiling people, but to save on bandwidth.

Ohhh, this will be a toughie. I'm going to have to get back to you on this to be honest, but off the top of my head I think I'll have to go with Flowers Blooming or whatever it's called, from FFVII. Just because you've put it into my mind since you posted that series already.

Take your time! ;) Although I think I found a pretty neat cover for that...

Kate Covington, a.k.a. Erutan, has put lyrics to a lot of the FF series, and some Xenogears, a Silent Hill one, and a few other games. I think her covers are amazing, but of course the original music always has a very special place in my heart.

Eheh, am I allowed to pick PC games now or is it limited to console games? I feel like the "true" definition of a video game is a game made for a console, but in modern times a lot of people tend to refer to all games, both for hte computer and the console, as Video Games.

I'll assume that I can answer with a PC game, simply because I'll have a pretty hard time picking something if the question is aimed towards console games, heh...

My answer will be boring. Pretty much the same as in the other thread, and that will be: For River (Johnny's Version) from To the Moon. Oh, and if I'm allowed to take it even further, by allowing soundtracks from visual novels, then I have two more for you!

For River:

Katawa Shoujo Menu Music (VN)

A random track from a VN that I have not played. It's unfortunately not been translated into english as of yet (if it will even happen, that is) and it will thus take me some time before I will play this. When I know how to read japanese, I will play this one, but until then it's pretty much impossible to play it. This track however, is simply amazing.

Ahh there are so many more I'd like to mention, both from VN's and "regular" games. As I mentioned in the other thread, Bastion and Aquaria has some really amazing soundtracks. And of course, Clannad has one of the best soundtracks ever made. (Both the VN and the Anime)

Nobuo Uematsu, his music style will never be matched.

But I found the music instruments used in bravely default are awesome.

This is great, everyone! Keep 'em coming :)

Any games count! Console, hand-held, PC, arcade (does anybody still go to the arcade?)

Have at it. Let's just all share the music love.

Easy. Mine would hands down have to be Straight Ahead from Megaman Zero 4. Man that song is amazing. Like, I don't think people appreciate video game music like that enough. This song pumps me up so much and it just gets me in the zone is wear. I'm in love with this song.

My favorite would have to be "Simon's Theme (Dance of the Holy Man)" from the Castlevania series. Specifically, the version from Super Castlevania IV on the SNES. A great tune to get pumped up to. It's totally 90s but I love it!
