Since there's a thread here about your favorite song from a video game, which I took to mean something with lyrics, I figured I'd start one for instrumentals. :whistling:
Battle themes are awesome. But this one was scored for a stageplay early in Final Fantasy IX, where the characters were supposed to pretend to fight. It's melodramatic, in a style that well suited the sort of medieval fantasy steampunk that was the setting of the game.
Not that Final Fantasy is exactly a niche here, but I personally think that song above is underrated. Of course, it's not as if I play it for every occasion, or any occasion really. It's not really something I like to listen to in the car, or surfing the net.
Nobuo Uematsu left some large shoes to fill when he left the staff of the future releases of Final Fantasy, and it's true that FFXII underwhelmed me music-wise even though I loved absolutely every other facet of it. "Blinded By Light" on the other hand: The main melody is so catchy, it's soulful and soaring, and the accompaniment is a sonic version of a cornucopia. It sounds as if it has every instrument that you can name playing at the same time, and... I think it works!
How about you? Obviously, you can pick more than one. Let's keep it down to three, if you're embedding something for us all to listen to, eh? Also, please use SPOILER TAGS if embedding. Not to keep them from spoiling people, but to save on bandwidth.
