Not any one in particular, but what's that one 'spark' that makes you think 'I need to buy this new system'?

Do you buy them because you're basically a die hard fan of the console maker and assume good games will come out somewhere down the line?

Do you buy a system when a certain great game/number of great games are made available?

Do you buy because you like technology and shiny things?

What makes you buy a video game system?

for me, it's definitely the games... in most cases, i don't bother upgrading devices/hardware for any of my electronics (phones, PC, gaming consoles) unless it becomes unusable or there's enough of a desire to upgrade in order to use new games/software with it. i love my 3DS now, but it was definitely a purchase i made more for the games than for the console at the time.

Yeah definitely the games. I need to have a good library or won't even consider the console. When it comes to my 3DS however..I knew it would be great as I've always loved handheld systems. Growing up, my Gameboy color and Gameboy Advance SP where my most played consoles. This continues with all of my handhelds. Easily my most played consoles.

The games....
The price....
Online capabilties....
Friends bugging me to buy it....

Those are probably the 4 biggest factors for me.

While I voted for games, because of course that's the main feature I'm interested in, it really depends. I like Nintendo games and products and know the series' and characters that are in them, so I'm way more likely to buy a Nintendo console just because Nintendo made it. I know what I'm likely to see on it, so I know I'll love it. But when we bought our PS3, it was a different matter. What games are there, what's the price point, what other features are available that's gonna 'sell this to me', will I play it often enough, are used games available for it?

I'd never really had a Playstation before (I did have a PS2, but hardly any games as I got it right at the end of the console and was just starting college, so I didn't have much play time) so I didn't know any of the characters or series, and that really turns me off. Had it not been several years since the first release of the PS3, making it cheaper to buy the console and a wide variety of used games being available, we'd never have bought it. And had we not enjoyed the features like the Playstation Network that provides tons of free and discounted games, Crunchyroll and Netflix, we likely wouldn't have kept it, much less continued playing it as we have.

  • How many games there are and what types.
  • The color of the system.
  • How nice the apps and such are.
  • The price of the system.
That's pretty much it.

The games. I mean I got the Wii U for the hardware, then the games. However, what good is a console with no games?

Being the Nintendo fan I am, I'd probably buy every system if it was cheap enough. I own the majority of them though.

The games primarily. Although the pricing is another determining factor for me.
