What makes you scared?

Are there any horror games out there that are good enough that they slightly (or more) scare you when you play them?

Any of them have moments where they make you jump?

There was one game I rented long ago, I can't remember what it was. Something scared me so much during the opening gameplay I turned it off and put it away, even stacking other games on top of it lol.

Ugh, I think it was skeletons or something? I know it was a bad jump scare.
