I have say a $400/£300ish budget for a good tablet. I want something fast and snappy that will suit me for a fair few years. I want something that runs on the latest operating system (either iOS or Android) and will be good for things like word processing, viewing the web, watching videos & reading books.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Not a tablet person but I'm sure @froggyboy604 can give a few good recommends.

That's mainly who I was aiming this thread at :p

I use a Nvidia Shield K1 tablet which is good for playing Android games since you can use an optional Shield controller. The Shield tablet uses Android 6.0, and cost $199.

I use it for viewing the web, watching videos and reading, mobile gaming, and it works pretty good for these tasks. The 8 inch screen can be held with one hand. It also has a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage. I like the front facing speakers which make the sound more loud than back facing speakers.

But, I don't have a bluetooth keyboard, so I don't really use it for Word Processing.

@froggyboy604 what's your take on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2?

Thanks for your advice.

It maybe a good idea to wait an extra few months since the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 might be released very soon since the S2 Tab was released on Released 2015, September which is almost a year ago. New versions of tablets and smartphones seem to get released on a yearly cycle.

The Samsung Tab S2 Exynos 5433 (1.9GHz Quad + 1.3GHz Quad) CPU and 3GB of RAM on the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tab should make it fast enough to run all current Android apps and games at a fast speed.

It is useful that the MicroSD slot can use a memory card up to 128GB if you need more storage than the 32GB or 64GB internal storage depending on the model of the S2 tab.

The screen on the S2 also seems very nice looking because it uses a 9.7” 2048x1536 (QXGA) sAMOLED or
8.0” 2048x1536 (QXGA) sAMOLED display, so video, text, and games should look very nice on it.

The S2 Tab also looks pretty thin, and light to hold.

I like the looks of the Asus Zenpad 10 which I saw a video of on YouTube.

It has a keyboard dock with built-in speakers. The Zenpad 10 reminds me of the Asus Transformer tablet which was one of the first Tablets with a detachable keyboard cover.

Looked into that too, from research it seems ASUS don't seem to keep their tablets updated though - what you get out of the box is what you stay with. I'm looking for something that will hopefully get the Android N update.

I agree that Asus does not really update the OS on their tablets unless it is a Nexus tablet like the Asus Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 which got updated for many years until Google stopped updating the Nexus 7 2012 after Android 5.1.

I think the HTC Nexus 9 should get Android N. The HTC Nexus 9 does not have a expandable MicroSD storage card slot, so it is not as useful if you plan on using it for carrying a lot of files.

Not too sure about that.

Well @froggyboy604 Samsung didn't announce the S3 Tab today so looks like I will be going with the S2 tab.

I hope, you enjoy your new tablet. It would be nice to know your experience with the S2 Tab because it looks like one of the best Android tablets with a bigger sized screen.

Update: I am probably going to go with the iPad Air 2. Probably will get it on black friday or something soon for hopefully a cheaper amount of money. Thought I might as well buy something a little more high-end that can last me some years.

I think the iPad Air 2 would be a good choice if one of your main concern is getting operating system, and app updates for many years in the future since Apple is well known for supporting older devices like the iPad 2 which got released on March 2011 with iOS 9.3 which got released in March 2016.

But, Google Android devices even Google's own Nexus brand stop getting updates after a few years. Sadly, a lot of Android app makers also stop updating apps for older versions of Android like Android 2.3, and 4.0-4.1 because of the decreasing amount of users who still use older versions of Android.
