When do you set off fireworks?

Besides the 4th of July (here in the states) what other days or occasions do you light off fireworks?

We celebrate the festival know as Diwali with fireworks every year on 24th of October besides that not much.

For my group of friends, we do the 4th and New Years eve. Which reminds me I need to grab some for new years.

At night or mid-evening. Mostly on the 4th or New Year but not sure about the noise ordinances because you never know.

Generally safe if you do it when everyone else does, doing it at a random time would mean trouble.
