Nintendo won with Mario Odyssey. The entire trailer was pretty much perfect. Everything else was good too. Kirby brought me excitement, I got super hyped for BotW DLC and Fire Emblem Warriors, and then Mario Odyssey took it home. Also the song, the song is amazing.
For me, it is also Nintendo. They are a clear winner. As much as I wasn't the biggest fan of the Nintendo Switch I am now considering buying it after all the awesome games they've announced at E3. They blew Sony and Microsoft out of the water for sure.
I am so excited for Metroid, Kirby (my favorite childhood game), Xenoblade Chronicles and Super Mario Odyssey. The only thing that I miss is a brand new Animal Crossing game.
I think Nintendo won the conference hands down. The decision to go from a live show with a lot of filler to a prerecorded segment and then follow it up with the Treehouse that shows you live gameplay is brilliant. The trailer for Mario Odyssey was fantastic and then we actually got to see live freaking gameplay of it. It showed off the mechanics of the game which seemed to be well polished. The announcement of Metroid Prime 4 being in development was another notch on their victory belt. Xenoblade Chronicles 2, new Yoshi and Kirby for the Switch were other bits of awesome news. But the announcement of a main Pokemon game being in development for the Switch was so freaking cool. I can't wait to see what it becomes.
Microsoft was kind of meh. They announced Project Scorpio officially being the XBox One X. They had some cool games but nothing that hooked me in. Too much focus on Forza and actual cars.
Sony was very disappointing. They didn't show much this year. Maybe their saving it for their Sony conference later in the year?
Never in a thousand years did I imagine I'd find myself saying this, but Ubisoft stole the show for me. I had my reservations about Mario + Rabbids, but once I saw the art style and gameplay, I was convinced. Mario Odyssey? I actually didn't find it all that impressive. The Crew was a fun game so I'm excited to see all the options they're giving us for the sequel, so that was great. I'm super excited for Skull and Bones because I adored the pirate gameplay in Assassin's Creed IV. Speaking of which, Assassin's Creed Origins looks amazing given the new setting and gameplay elements, so that will be the first installment I've played since Black Flag. I've also been a huge Far Cry fan since the second game and I'm interested to see where they're going with the fifth installment. And of course let's not forget the game we've waited years for, Beyond Good and Evil 2. Though there wasn't any gameplay, the trailer was incredibly well done and got me very hyped.
Overall, Ubisoft just catered to everything I wanted this E3. Not to say the others weren't impressive, but they just had me impressed one game after another without pause.
Have to give it to Ubisoft this year. When I trade a conference, I think about the pace, the reveals, and the quality of the reveals. Ubisoft did well in all of these regards. Nintendo tripped up at the quality of their reveals (MP4 & Pokemon Switch). Sony had a couple good reveals (MH & SotC) but the pacing was atrocious. Unfortunately I didn't get to see Microsoft or Bethesda.
I think Microsoft won it, they really had a good presentation to please all kinds of gamers from hardware to software. Nintendo follows it up with their strong line up followed by Ubisoft and then Sony.
