Why are 720P computer monitors with a resolutions of 1280×720 pixels not popular?

I think 720P monitors are unpopular because 1280×720 pixels may not be a good screen resolution for doing work like typing documents and spreadsheets.

1080P monitors and other higher resolution monitors can be bought for $100-200, so fewer people will buy a lower resolution 720P monitor.

Resolution is too low these days.
I had a 1280x800 laptop a decade ago, and it was fine.
Had another 1280x800 laptop half a decade ago, and my screen was always full, and yet I had to keep scrolling up/down and left/right to see most stuff.

1920x1080 is good enough for me these days, because on the other hand, 2160x1440 is too high (can barely see the GUI and/or text any more).

I agree, one of the problems with 720P and similar resolutions is that it is too low where scrolling up and down becomes annoying. More websites are also posting bigger size pictures which are taller than 720 Pixels, so it is not possible to see the whole picture in one screen unless you zoom out of the website, or change a setting in how your web browser display photos to fit on one screen without scrolling down the page to see more of the picture.

I guess we will be saying the same about 1080P in 5 or so years time.

I agree, in a few years 4K monitors may come down in price where fewer people will buy 1080P monitors.

Eventually electronics makers may force users to buy 4K monitors by not making any new high quality HD monitors anymore like how it is harder to buy a new 40 inch 720P TV at an electronics store which have very few or no 720P TVs for sale.

27 inch 4K monitors currently can be bought for under $400 on Amazon, so people who are looking for a new bigger monitor may get the 4K version instead of a 1080P 27inch monitor which is only $50-100 cheaper.

I could care less so long as the output looks good.

720P is okay for full screen video. But, It is not as good for reading long text articles because the text may look less sharp, and a height of 720 pixels is not enough pixels to show many lines of text with a font size of 12 on one screen without scrolling.

Programs like web bowsers' tab bar, titlebar, status bar, and address bar, margins on the article, and the Windows Taskbar may use 70 pixels or more, so there maybe only 600 pixels or less left over for reading text from top to bottom.
