So I think it might be for gaming reasons, but when looking at laptops/keyboards I will notice that the space bar, and the a s d and w keys will be a different color than the rest of the keyboard.
I think it is mostly done for gaming reasons, and to teach people to place their left hand fingers on the a, s, and d key, and their thumbs on the space key, so they type properly by putting their left hand and thumbs on the correct keys.
And W instead of E doesn't add up to me.
