It's common knowledge that GameStop is reliant on the used game trade to stay afloat, but if you ever needed hard numbers to put it in perspective, here you go.

Releasing its latest quarterly financial results, the global games mega-retailer has revealed that the sale of pre-owned games and hardware accounted for 47.4% of the company's total profits.

In dollar terms, that's $250.2 million in profit, which is a lot more than the company made from the sale of new games, which "only" brought in $182.4 million.

Makes it easy to see why the battle over "online passes" and "project ten dollar" is such a heated one, doesn't it? Take away those trade-ins and GameStop goes bust.

that's bad if used games go bye bye.

I think more people who are internet savvy will probably just use Ebay or Amazon Marketplace to sell their used games since accepting payment through Paypal is very simple. There are also websites dedicated to trading used games for points instead of Paypal payment. You can use the points to buy other Used games.

GameStop might have a tougher time getting used games in the future when more people are savvy on how to buy and sell used games online.

I don't think that's bothering them much right now. So I doubt it will effect them much in the future since some people want the money right away and don't want to mess with shipping.

I usually just trade my games to friends for games that I have not played yet which they own, but don't play anymore because they beat them. There are also flea markets, pawn shops, other stores where people set up booths to sell and buy used games and stuff which are cheaper then Gamespot.

Shipping is not really hard as long as it is in the US. There are inexpensive padded envelops or boxs you can buy at the post office which cost a few bucks to send within the US. All you have to do is write down the address of the person your sending to, and pay for the shipping box.

I also bought a few used Games from Amazon Marketplace, and have not have any problems yet playing them. Amazon Marketplace stores can sell for less because they usually do not have to worry about paying rent since most are run from people houses.
