Reasons Google Chrome OS is alive

Google Chrome OS is alive because it have Adobe Flash Player which is still used on many video sites, online games, educational, social networks, and news websites.

There were past rumors that Google Chrome OS will eventually run Android Apps and games, so the mobile app and gaming users are more interested in Chrome OS than Firefox OS because most website games gameplay, and graphics are not as good as mobile games like Asphalt 8, and Minecraft Pocket Edition.

Chromebooks hardware was good enough to run Google Chrome at a usable speed, and it can run operating systems like Ubuntu and Windows 10 at a usable to somewhat usable speed depending on what you use Ubuntu or Windows for.

Chrome OS devices were easy to buy at a computer store, or on eBay and Amazon websites.

Chromebooks also had dedicated power user who dual-booted Ubuntu Linux onto a SD Card or the internal storage drive which is 16GB or bigger in size. Chromebooks are popular for some Ubuntu Linux users because they were cheap, and there were online guides online to teach users on how to install Ubuntu Linux on a Chromebook. Chrome OS Users can also install Windows 10 on Chromebooks by following online tutorials. Some Chromebooks have upgrade-able SSD drives which made them attractive for power users compared to some devices with non-upgrade-able storage drives.

Chrome OS have help growing from the US government since a lot of US public schools use Chromebooks. Google maybe more likely to share Chrome browsing data with the US government, so the US government may decide to help Chrome OS become more popular, so the government can collect more user data even if Windows becomes less popular because some Windows users will switch to Chrome OS which is controlled by Google.

Reason Firefox OS is dead

I think the one of the reason that Firefox OS is that did not have many older tech features like Adobe Flash player which is still use on many popular websites like Dailymotion, Crunchyrolls, Facebook, Flash games sites, etc. The YouTube and most other video sites HTML5 video player was slow on lowend hardware, and it was still an experimental feature in the past.

Firefox OS HTML5 web apps, games, and websites were very basic, so Firefox OS was less useful in the past. It is unlikely for Firefox OS to get popular mobile apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and games like Minecraft Pocket and Candy Crush Saga which have a huge user population.

The Firefox mobile web browser is less popular than Google Chrome.

Most of the Firefox OS smartphones were too slow for Adobe Flash player, and can't run most popular games and apps for mobile devices. The phones were also too slow for newer Android OS, and other mobile OS.

Firefox OS phones were difficult to buy in the US, and other big countries, and an Android phone, Chromebook or Windows Phone can be cheaper or about the same price, and have more popular features and apps.

The US government may have secretly wanted to ruin the chances of Firefox OS from being alive. The US government can secretly released a lot of cheap Android phones to make fewer users pick a Firefox OS phone. Firefox is less likely to share user data with US law enforcement compared to Google, so the government does not want Firefox OS to be alive,

I like to think there was only room for one of them, not both.

I think Firefox desktop and mobile web browser user population not growing as quickly can be one reason that Firefox had to stop working on Firefox OS, and mainly focus on web browsers.

A lot of Firefox users are now using Google Chrome, and other browsers like Brave and Vivaldi browser.

Firefox seems less popular, also Google have a lot of money to throw towards something like this - they are one of the largest companies in the world, the team behind Firefox - not so much.

Google also has the largest online advertising services which is Google Adense and Adword, so Google can post a lot of ads for Chromebooks on sites like Google.com, YouTube, Gmail, and the millions of websites which use Adsense and Adwords to earn money.

The many good reviews for Chromebooks helped Chromebooks Chrome OS stay alive. Google is like a big boss which some tech writers and video creators which they don't want to offend because Google controls a big chunk of the internet, and is starting to control offline media like newspapers because a lot of newspapers rely on YouTube, Google Search, Google News, and Google Plus to promote their offline newspaper and news tv channels like BBC and CNN.

I feel there would always be some positive reviews of Chromebooks because a lot of Tech YouTube reviewer are not brave enough to make a bad review about Google products because Google has the power to close down their YouTube channel, remove Adsense from any channel, ban your website from making money with Google Adsense, and lower their search result rankings on YouTube, and Google search.

Many technology YouTube Creators, and tech review websites feel pressured to create good reviews for Chromebooks and Chrome OS because they feel Google/YouTube would treat them worse if the tech reviewer have a bad opinion of Chromebooks. YouTube can take away their YouTube partnership, delete their channel, rank their YouTube videos more lowly on YouTube and Google search results, and rank their personal tech websites lower on the second or lower pages of the search results on Google.com.

Offline newspapers, magazines, and stores may also feel pressured to make good reviews of Chromebooks because Google may stop buying offline advertisements in newspapers, magazines, and store flyers to promote Google products like Chromebooks, Google Play, YouTube Red, and Pixel phone if offline media makes bad reviews of Google products. Most newspapers, magazines, and stores have a website which gets most of their web traffic from Google Search and links which they post to Google sites like YouTube, Google Plus, and Blogspot.

But, tech reviewers feel not as pressured to give Firefox OS a good review because they don't rely on Firefox for hosting videos like YouTube or making money, or high search results for generating traffic to their websites.

Probably because it is from the famous google. Just kidding.
I believe it's because of the brand name though...

I think more people are using Chrome OS because it can now run more programs and apps than Firefox OS which can only use web apps made from HTML, HTML5, CSS, and Javascript.

Google Chrome OS can run more programs where users can download and install Google Android apps from Google Play. The developer version of Google Play also let users download and install Linux compatible programs like Firefox, Gimp, LibreOffice, etc.

I use firefox for direct downloading because of the 'resume' button if the connection is interrupted unlike to google chrome which it has to start all over.

It is disappointing that there is no resume button in Chrome download manager. But, using a third party download program like Free download Manager usually have a resume button, and other features which may make downloading a file faster.

This.

Firefox was the most popular browser in the world a whole decade ago, following the disaster called IE6 and IE7, and remained popular until Firefox 4 came out because that was the moment they started doing a Google Chrome style release cycle (too many major releases for companies to keep up with).
