Why is there so little hype for Skyward Sword?

Remember how when Twilight Princess was announced and shown, the internet went insane with hype and what not? Because it seems Skyward Sword isn't exactly getting the same kind of reaction from Nintendo fans and gamers in general, is it?

So why is their so little hype for the game? Is it because of the art style and such, which causes less fanboys to freak about it? Because of the emphasis on puzzles and such, while Twilight Princess gave the illusion of a Lord of the Rings style action adventure (in the trailers, the gameplay was somewhat different)? Or is it because the trailers are near enough entirely gameplay with fairly calm music, and don't do enough to get people excited?

Or has the Zelda series just become a bit irrelevant in gaming now and not the big event it once was?

Well apart from the art style, it's just how the story is laid out. About how Link is in school and all this other bull crap that isn't like Zelda. I mean all they're doing is telling about Link's life mostly and it doesn't add hype for me. All it does is make me go, "wtf? Why is Link in school? Who isn't he aloner like usual." Then there's Zelda who they horrible messed up on. She looks like a horse kicked her in the face.

Well, probably since I haven't seen anything cool or out of the ordinary what makes me want to get it yet. So far it's just been flying on bird stuff and nothing special/cool like TP.

It's been stated as more of a knight academy, actually.
And why on earth would you want Link to be a loner? What kind of misanthropic, sociopathic desire is that? (Besides which, he had plenty of friends in Twilight Princess, too).

Not like having no friends loner, but someone who lives alone with hardly any contact with the outside world. Like in OoT at the beginning. The only person he talked to was Saria. I don't want him not to have friends, but it's just that he has a social life and it weird.

Also it breaks the line of being a silent protagonist.

Surely the only thing that would break the whole silent protagonist business would be if they spoke?
Besides, there are other games with a silent protagonist with a social life.
Also, by your explanation, it seems to me that the main reason you don't like the concept is because it is seemingly new and different. Fear of the unknown, perhaps?

I don't fear change in the series. Though I have hated a lot of the change. Like the boats. They go slow and then the trains just seem too modern for a Zelda game.

As for this game the story is starting to sound bad. The graphics have looked bad from day 1 when they showed us. I don't see this game getting any worse though.

So I guess this might the game which causes even long time Zelda fans to lose interest in the series? Because to see Zelda fans call the story awful is a good sign of how far the series has fallen.

That's not true. Wind Waker is my most hated Zelda game. One of the reasons is because of the story. I hated the story of WW, but TP bounced right back and it was ok. With LoZ it's a hit and miss thing. OoT, MM, and TP all hit and WW was a miss. Though I'm only talking 3D console games here.

People, it's obvious, like DYL just said, Zelda is butt-ugly. Then again, she was always butt-ugly, so Zelda just simply cannot be the reason for the lack of hype! *shifty eyes*

It could be art style, it could be dodgy story. As a non-Zelda player/follower, the story is definitely different from what I get from the other games, so that could be the main reason.

I don't think this is going to put fans off the series entirely. If anything, it'll just make the next iteration all the more popular. It's the same thing that happened with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Wind Waker had a surreal art style, and the story deviated from what we've traditionally come to expect from a Zelda game. Twilight Princess comes along with a shift toward photorealism, and a story and gameplay features reminiscent of the Light/Dark world mechanic from Link to the Past.

Now Skyward Sword eschews the staunch familiarity of the series just like Wind Waker before it. People will disagree with it and discuss what could have been until the next entry debuts on Wii U with presumably realistic HD visuals.

On a personal note, Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda title. Twilight Princess seemed so uninspired and listless to me. As far as Skyward Sword goes, I'm just not very interested, and I can't really pinpoint why! @.@.

Wind Waker is one of my favourite titles as well. But there was definitely more hype for that game than Skyward Sword, and I was certainly more interested in The Wind Waker in general.

But you might have about making the next installment more popular as a result, although I fear Skyward Sword could do poorly sales wise.

Personally I think they're trying too hard. Their goal is to make a better game than OoT. Which I think they did with Majora's Mask, but whatever. So they try and make the game awesome in anyway possible, but they end up failing in the process.

The problem is that Nintendo are stuck between a rock and a hard place with the Zelda series.
The more casual fans of the series, and a lot of critics, bemoan the fact that there is not enough change between the games, and that with the exception of Majora's Mask, they all too similar.
Then on the other side you have the self-professed hardcore fans, who still ask for change, but then turn rabid when it is given to them, saying that they've done it wrong, and that they've changed it, so now it's ruined.
To put it succinctly, Nintendo are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
If only the self-professed hardcore could be more open and accepting of change, and not judge so extremely something which they have never played.

I don't really poke around the internet for information unless I really need something, but I do subscribe to Nintendo Power, so I've gotten plenty of hype about Skyward. I personally am excited for it, but then again I've played every game in the series aside from Majora (which I want to) and liked them all to varying degrees with the exception of Zelda II (AWFUL experimentation there) Wind Waker would have been a lot better if sailing time was cut in half IMO.

As for Link's social life, one thing that I've seen is that the 3 "silent" protagonists of Nintendo, Mario, Link, and Samus, are all getting more vocal as time goes on. Look at Other M for Samus getting a voice, and Mario's had catchphrases for years. It's only a matter of time before something similar happens to Link. As for this Zelda, I have to agree with Nintendo Power and say she's cuter then most incarnations. Not gorgeous, but at least it seems this time she has a not-so-serious side to her, which IMO helps her attractive image.
