Why isn't Microsoft selling more autographed consoles?

You would think that, with Gates and Ballmer's popularity, they would have a bunch of autographed limited-edition Xbox consoles out there... There are so many geeks out there who would pay their life-savings to get their hands on a console autographed by Gates himself. Unlike the CEO of Sony, Gates and Ballmer are super-famous among geeks and nerds.

Why do you think Microsoft is not milking Gates' popularity by selling autographed consoles?

I guess they don't want fakes to be sold pretending to have been autographed by them. Plus I think it might be hard to give it a value. I mean there are geeks but do you really think they're going to spend a lot just for an autograph on a games console?

Seems a bit counterintuitive to me. Bringing the cost of consoles down should be the priority (get a higher adoption rate), what good would doing a signature series accomplish? I don't think it would do any good with selling more games or anything like that.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that they would be limited edition. Besides, the number of autographs doesn't always decrease their value. People such as Stan Lee and J. K. Rowling have signed hundreds of thousand of merchandise items, and people still buy them on eBay for a lot of money...

not as much as one console with the only signature on it.

This is true. There are some people whose autograph doesn't really decrease regardless of how much they sign. It depends on who the autograph belongs to as well. That only applies to some people, not everyone one.

On topic though......I don't understand why they don't do a few of them. I can see why they didn't do a whole lot of them but they could have a select number of autographed consoles out there. I'm sure there would be enough people to buy them as long as they didn't go overboard with it.

Even if they didn't have some major profit, they would at least make a bunch of gamers out there really happy...

They would make a profit, however, it's like I said earlier. If they would only do a certain amount of them autographed, they'd really sell them. If you make too many, you might have some of them sitting on the shelf and not selling.

I think it would be hard to gauge how many people would by a console just for their signature. I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase a console signed by either Gates or Ballmer. Honestly it might be better off being ran as some type of competition (do this and get entered for a chance to win a Xbox One owned by Bill Gates himself!), that would probably get more people interested in it then trying to sell a few consoles with it.
