Why isn't this a feature in email?

that when you send a email that you gain a notice saying the place got it.

That would be useful..

but when an email is sent I usually am notified if it doesn't get delivered.

I think it is for staying anonymous/private online, so the sender would not know if the receiver read the e-mail or not. But, I agree they should make this feature.
