You need to keep your Wii so you can transfer your save data. Nintendo has now detailed how this will work out:
You'll need both your Wii and Wii U running on either two TVs or different inputs on the same screen. Each must be connected to a broadband network, and you'll need a 512MB or higher SD card in your Wii U console. From there, enter the Wii Menu app from the Wii U home screen. Select the Wii System Transfer icon, and follow the on-screen instructions. Move the SD card to your original Wii console and download the transfer application from the Wii Shop. Use it to move your data on the memory card.Wii U will recognize this information when it detects that SD card again, at which point it can pull your Wii data over.
There are still some pieces of the puzzle missing, as Nintendo refers to on-screen instructions we've yet to see. It's also critical to note this is a one-way transfer, so once your Wii saves are on the Wii U, that's where they'll live forever.

two different screens or inputs? That seems, silly.....
