Here's some E3 buzzkill for you: it seems the battery in Nintendo's Wii U control pad only lasts for 3-5 hours.

That's...wow. That's less than a lot of you would spend during a serious session with a game.

This is going to be a problem given the nature of the controller; it's one thing to have a pad pluggedin while it's sitting in your lap and charging. If you're tilting it and moving it around the room, it's going to create problems.

Those aren't rumoured specs, either; they're official figures supplied by Nintendo. Bummer. Even worse is that they're estimates, with Nintendo saying that the screen brightness and "usage" may decrease it even further.

That is.... fail. Who the hell designed this controller?

Guess I need to buy a 3rd party battery like I did with the 3DS.

That really sucks.
I mean if a new battery lats about 3-5 hours.. Imagine when the battery gets worn out...

Just act as I do with all batterys in anything, ignore all warnings and hope that the device can run off any pure love/hate you can channel into it...mostly the hate. Embrace the Hate and no batteries will die.

But if that is the estimate then I say that it is a bit poor, even knowing what this device will do. Oh well.

Considering this is Nintendo versus say Microsoft I would say 3-5 hours works well. I mean I don't expect to be plowing through an analogue for Skyrim or ME3 on this system so I don't need a controller to fight the good fight from dawn to dusk. Even with a good Zelda game I only need maybe four hours at a time because I don't play Zelda hard. That said a good Mario game might have me cursing in tongues if I can't rack up at least a dozen stars in one setting.

That's such a little bit of time. I mean 3-5 hours is barely warming up when I'm playing. Maybe Nintendo did this on purpose to keep people from playing it too long. I will get a better battery if there is one available.
