As in, a feature to allow the Wii U to have its own version of StreetPass, despite the fact its a home console and you obviously can't take the system anywhere?

It sounds like a very clever feature really. As the source says:

a small device that's comparable to Pokemon's pedometer (seen with Heart Gold and Soul Silver) will accompany Wii U to "Street Pass" gamers everywhere.

Basically, it shows your Mii and a few stats about you, and will gather the profiles and information of other Wii U owners you meet when out and about. So in simple terms, StreetPass for Wii U.

The slogan they mention seems unlikely though, for obvious reasons:

When you walk back from work or school and log into Wii U you will have met new friends and even more enemies.

Seems a little... cynical for Nintendo perhaps?

Still, I like the sound of this if true, it seems like a really nice minor feature to have.

Thats cool! I wonder if the Wii U version of StreetPass can StreetPass a 3DS.

Sounds neat, but...new enemies? Like a new Goomba in a level per one streetpass?

I'd say it'll be like a poke walker that comes with the wii u

even more enemies.

My guess is that the space pirates have been collaborating with nintendo to create the Wii U. We'd all be seeing Space Pirates accounts on the Nintendo Network which would clash with their heavily GF based fanbase.

Oh Nintendo, you're always there to remind me that nobody I know plays any of your systems.

Still, this is a pretty interesting feature; different ways to interact with other players are fun. I'd probably forget to bring it when I went somewhere, though.

This. Absolutely this. I've had the Wii since launch day and my address book has been empty for 6 years hahahahah.

And now, even all of my old high school friends have died out on Xbox and PC...I feel so lonesome in the online gaming world as of late.

In terms of the topic, this is a cool idea! I really enjoy Streetpass and I hope this becomes an even greater success!
