Faced with intense scrutiny, investor pressure and the first fiscal year losses for his company in over 25 years, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata once again reiterated plans for the future. Notably that includes making sure Wii U is available globally by the 2012 holiday season.

Though we've heard many times Nintendo plans to release the new home console sometime this year, this is the first we've heard Nintendo outright state it plans to bring the system to all major territories (North America, Japan, Europe and Australia) by the holidays.

In remarks to reporters, Iwata also emphasized he plans to restore Nintendo to profitability next fiscal year.

I think it's a tad too soon, they should wait to early 2013.

DS, you got into this generation way too late. These consoles are old. Like, really old, for today's technology, and the fact that it took them shorter time to make the GameCube to Wii transition, PS2 to PS3, and Xbox to 360.

Or maybe they thought the time was right?

did we watch the same press conference? they showed off some tech demos and the controller a little bit and didn't show the console at all. Now take that out and what did they have left for their press conference? Just a few 3DS trailers and thats it. I'm pretty sure Nintendo showed off the Wii U earlier then what they wanted to.

The console looks like the Wii, that's not the important part anyway. They wanted to show off the controller, and what the system is actually capable of.
