I'd love to see a new sports game come out...Maybe something that takes advantage of the cameras that detect movements...The only people that really did this well was Nintendo's Wii...and their sports games...but even then it was like light sports nothing too intense but still fun...I'd love to see a Madden or NBA game actually do something innovative...They're never in the news for new features or groundbreaking games...
This comic pretty much describes my feelings on sports games:
Sports games will be taken seriously when they start being good.
Games like Madden are never in the news for innovation because they don't innovate. They use the same engine, same game, etc, and just replace some assets with the current year's roster. That's it. And they get paid thousands to just make a reskin and get paid millions in return because people don't *get* it. Compare that to Trickstar Games who had the barest of budgets and a tiny audience for their Ashes 2013 game, and it's so sad because think what they could have done if they were given some of that Madden money.
I enjoy some snow boarding games which can be considered sports games. I also used to be a fan of EA's NHL hockey game series. But, I think it will be difficult for sports games to reach as many people as Call of Duty, Battlefield, GTA, etc.
Fifa and Madden are bad games. Many people like them only due to hype and popularity. It's like watching a movie with a crappy script and story but you like it because you might like the actors. I highly doubt sports game will be getting any better any time soon...
