You know, the companies with gigantic budgets and an obsession with sequels? Because there has to be a point in which all these marketing expenses and thousand man teams and stuff isn't substainable, right?

Can the companies in this sphere even survive if two or more of their games fail outright?

I just find it funny you used "AAA" and "Crash" in the same sample. In the USA AAA is the American Automobile Association and do things like insurance, tows, and the like.

As for it crashing... I think only if they rely solely on motion controls and other such gimmicks it will. Having it readily available as an alternative option is fine (like how Xbox 360 did it) but don't rely on it as the main form of controls (like the Wii did).

I agree. I feel like gimmicks isn't the way to go. Gaming needs good stories and artwork, solid game play with controls that make you feel like your in control. It's great to diversify, but cutting yourself off and making yourself unappealing to the main core audience isn't a good plan. Just look at the Wii- yeah it appealed to casuals and the older to elderly people who've never gotten video games before. But they aren't the sort of people who are going to upgrade every console generation and buy tons of games either.

I don't mind when game developers spend a ton of money on their games, as long as it's spent wisely. Who cares if the graphics are drop dead amazing, of the game play is buggy and laggy. Likewise, the game play can be fantastic, but very few people will buy it if the graphics look terrible. And God help you if the story is bad. There has to be a balance between everything. I think if game developers just focused on making good games all around they'd find that people would buy them without crazy marketing, and gimmicky ideas.

I wouldn't say a full on crash, but yes some companies will be swept under the rug. It's been happening for the entire last generation and it will likely continue for the next. A lot of companies seem to think if you throw enough money at a game, you'll get amazing results leading to blockbuster sales. This simply isn't the case.
