I've never been a microsoft supporter since the 90s and Im growing tired of the playstation.

When i was a kid there was a lot more to choose from.
Do you think its possible we will see another company make a machine to compete on these two monopoly idiots in our lifetime?

I feel like you never heard of Nintendo. Honestly I do not want another console maker out there. If you're bored of Playstation, move onto Nintendo or PC.

I read a gaming related blog post that Atari is making an Atari game console which come bundled with a lot of classic games. The Atari console allows users to install and run a PC operating system like Windows 10 on it to play PC games.

I feel its popularity may increase if retro and American game consoles becomes more popular, and Atari can attract enough game makers to make new games for it. Atari is an American brand, so it maybe popular with people who prefer to buy American products.

It's the industry of giants. Doubt there's gonna be any new contenders on the market.

PC gamer all my life and I never get bored. It's the games that you play that can make yourself bored. Just look at new games for your platform to play with, get better TV for looking at gaming with.

The REASON I wish there were more competitors is because gaming has changed because the main companies are not forced to try to compete. If they want to add a dumb banning system then they both just do it at the same time. If they want to keep re-releasing games there is no risk from competition.
For example. If they want to charge $150 a month for a PSN + membership then there is really no choice other than to quit gaming.

Ok, so generally speaking, nintendo is for children. way back in the day it was a main competitor but it's not "hardcore enough".

NO WAY. lol. I did it for too many years. Since the files of the games are accessible there are CHEATS. Everyone is cheating. I had to buy a new video card for every game, it felt like. I can't do it.

Playing Asteroids is NOT a competitor. haha

Nintendo has more uncensored PLOT games than Sony though currently, despite its claim on focusing more for kids lol

There is Google Stadia. I tbh want to see a game similar to Matrix or Ready Player one XD.

Yeah what do you mean by hardcore? The Switch has its fair share of adult games and grinding games. I know they are getting monster hunter soon, a new Bayonetta and metriod prime 4 is due sometime next year I'm guessing.

Well, if you get the top of all the good hardware it can last 5 years. My old card was 8 years before I replaced it.

With more companies getting into online streaming for games, I seriously doubt that new gaming system companies will be formed, to be honest.

I feel higher quality mobile games like Fortnite and Call of Duty mobile which look good on newer more powerful gaming smartphones and tablets may also cause fewer smaller game hardware companies to create a new game console because there may not be enough gamers who will buy a new up and coming $300+ game console unless it partner with a famous older gaming hardware brand like Atari, and Sega which has many old fans who can afford a new game console.

More casual and poor gamers may now play games like Call of Duty Mobile, Modern Combat, Fortnite, Pubg Mobile, Roblox, Minecraft, Angry Birds, Temple Run, Asphalt 9, Pokemon Go, etc on a smartphone, tablet, and Windows 10 PC with the Microsoft Store with many mobile and PC games or use an Android Emulator like Bluestack to play Android games on a PC. There are also web browser games which work on mobile web browsers for smartphones.

I think more casual and poor gamers are not as interested in saving money for many months, or asking their parents or family members to buy them a $200 to $500 game console for playing a few games.

Many mobile games now let you play games with a wireless Bluetooth controller, and the graphics on newer smartphones look nicer these days, so more people maybe satisfied with mostly playing mobile games on a smartphone.

The question is how will it be before streaming becomes the main way to game? I don't see it happening for at least 2-3 more generations

Wait you guys have limits? Unlimited usage is pretty normalised over here in the UK. I think it's harder to get an ISP that has a limit.

It was already hard before, and now that mobile devices punctured themselves a way in the market, and more and more people are turning to pc gaming (guilty) it's close to impossible. They would have to bring a genuinely unique product that no one else thought of/has the technology to create, and spend a ton into promoting it.

Just take a moment to think about how a giant like Google tried it out with the Google Stadia and still (mostly) failed to convince gamers. I say mostly 'cause they're still trying to make it work, but so far its not looking too good.

That's a shame. For a country that is meant to be the best in the world, you guys are really behind on certain things :(

I feel standalone Virtual Reality/VR gaming headsets like Oculus Quest 2 with built-in computers/consoles built-into the goggles can be competitive to popular consoles. VR headset consoles may be more popular when more games, and a faster CPU and video chip for playing most popular games like Call of Duty.

One of the main benefits of VR headset consoles is how realistic the games feel, and you don't need a separate TV and console to play VR games.
