I think upgrading the RAM on a medium price modern Windows 8 PC which cost $500 may not be as worth it to the typical buyer compared to the past since most $500 desktop PCs from stores like Bestbuy usually come with 6-8GB or more of RAM depending on the other parts like processor/CPU, video card, hard drive, and other parts which drive up the price of a PC.

I got Windows 8 to use about 458MB of RAM on a PC with 1024MB of RAM by uninstalling or stopping programs I never use, and using a lightweight antivirus like Bitdefender Antivirus.

A lot of people also claim that uninstalling the bundle software which came with PC with http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ or the default add/remove programs in Windows would make a PC faster without needing more RAM because by uninstalling software, your computer will use less RAM.

I saw videos of people running Windows 8 on an old netbooks with 1GB of RAM, and performed better after they upgraded to 8 instead of using its old OS like 7 which came with the netbook.

Keep in mind this netbook only has 1gb ram and NO ssd. It's more than usable for web surfing ect. With windows 7 it would of been painfully slow with 1gb
Metro apps wont work due to lack of windows 8 driver for intel gma 3600 video chip
everything else including wirlesss and sound is fine
