I don't think Windows 7 ever have as long of a life or popularity as Windows XP which is released on August 24, 2001 since Windows XP came out at a time when touch screen PC were not popular, and Windows 7 does not work well with touch screens compared to Windows 8.

Plus, a lot of people still use Windows XP because it is the lightest version of Windows which is still compatible with many programs and games. You can run Windows XP on a PC which only have 256MB of RAM, and a 300 MHz CPU while Windows 7 needs a faster PC.

A lot of people and companies also still use Windows XP and Vista since they are satisfied with the OS, and don't see a real need to upgrade.

I think after Windows 8 to 9 is release, most people will upgrade to a touchscreen PC, and not use Windows 7 if they want to use a touch screen PC or laptop since Windows 7 on a touchscreen is not a nice touch experience compared to Windows 8.

I don't need a touch screen for a long time. Even if it does become popular I'm sure W7 can be upgraded to make use.

W7 is the neo XP.

I think Microsoft probably won't make Windows 7 work good on a Touchscreen since Windows 8 is for touchscreen because it has bigger icons and finger while XP, and 7 will work better for desktop without touchscreen because of the smaller icons. But, I think a third-party company like Iobit, Norton, etc might make a skin/user interface for Windows 7 to work well for touchscreen.

All-In-one PC with the monitor built-into them have touch screen for some of the models, and more monitors these days are also touchscreen monitors.

I see touchscreen PC being popular with the casual PC user who think a touchscreen looks and act cool, and easier to use then a mouse according to the sales staff at Bestbuy, and other stores.

All the banks I visit while depositing money in still use Windows XP, or Windows 2000. I rarely see Windows 7 being used in any schools, libraries, banks, and stores.

I think a lot of people who use XP use it because they don't want to upgrade their RAM, CPU, hard drives, and other hardware, so it runs well on 7.

Why would those third party companies do that? O.o Iobit's related to performance optimization software and Norton just security.

If there is money to be made in Touchscreen user interface for older Operating Systems like Windows XP because of demand from the consumer for it. Iobit, Norton, and many companies might want to make and sell third-party Touchscreen theme/skin/user interface for Windows 7 and other operating system.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft's learned from their "mistake" with XP and supporting it for so long. I doubt we'll ever see a version of Windows last that long again.

I believe Windows XP is supported by Microsoft until 2014, but I don't see MS supporting and releasing Windows 7 till 2024 or later since MS probably rather work on their newer and more current operating systems, or move toward the Cloud/Internet OS like Apple iCloud, and Google Chrome OS.

I think I would be more willing to use Windows 8 on a touchscreen Tablet, or Touchscreen PC since Windows 8 looks simpler to use on Touchscreens then Windows 7 with smaller Icons and user interface which is designed for Keyboard and Mouse rather then touch.

I also read on a website that Windows 8 uses less RAM, CPU cycles and starts up faster then 7, so it will run faster on slower computers.

There is also a Desktop mode in Windows 8, so 8 won't be very different then 7 in Desktop mode except for some minor changes.

I probably rather own a Windows 8 Tablet then an Apple iPad, or Google Android Tablet because most of the programs and hardware like Printer and Scanner I use in Windows will be more likely to work for Windows 8, or I can easily find a scanner and printer for a Windows 8 PC to print and scan when I'm at home compared to iOS and Android which don't have many compatible printers or scanners for it.
