Microsoft is launching Windows 10 on July 29th. But the company’s been inviting users to test preview versions of the operating system since last October.

So what happens to your computer on July 29th if you’ve been running a preview for almost a year? You can either opt to stay in the “Windows Insider” program and continue to get access to upcoming features. Or you can do nothing… and get a free update to the stable version of Windows 10.

This is pretty nice to get Windows 10 for free for being a Windows 10 beta tester. But, I bet the insider versions of Windows 10 will contain problems which will make it unstable to use as a more stable Windows operating system like Windows 7, and XP which are both very stable.

Still pass on it, I enjoy W7 and don't upgrade if it isn't broken.

Windows 10 does not come with a lot of useful programs like Media Center, and DVD playback support. It also does not come with Solitaire, Minesweeper, Hearts, and other games which came with Windows. Windows Updates are also forced downloads for the consumer version of Windows 10 which can be very bad since Windows Updates can break a computer if you are an early adopter of updates instead of waiting to see if there are news reports of bad Windows Updates which broke tons of computers recently,

In a way, Windows 10 is more of a downgrade because so many programs, features, and games are gone.

I bet, if Microsoft is giving away Windows 10, the operating system is probably not very good to use for most users who are used to 7, Vista, and XP which don't have mobile features like touchscreen controls.

Well, I am not against using windows 10 but I don't want to experiment anything.
So, I will have to pass the free giveaway from microsoft :P

I don't want to update my laptop because I saw somewhere in my notification system that my display was not compatible with the update (I have a touchscreen). I'm concerned about that; I think Microsoft hasn't thought this update out fully and has the free update available so that it can use people as guinea pigs to scope out potential problems. I'll do what I usually do and sit back and wait until all of the future issues have been resolved.

I agree, I don't want to experiment with Windows 10, and risk having a unstable PC which crash, freeze, or randomly restarts because of a problem with Windows 10 which was not fixed.

I've also researched the fact that they're making it free for people who pirate, you know the new reservation thing. I don't know what the motive is behind it but it does seem like a good move of Microsoft to give it out for free, just as Linux is free.

Same here. I won't upgrade until at least 6 months later when most major issues have been discovered and fixed, in case there would be any. Also about the forced updates thing, is it true? ._. What about people with limited connectivity who don't want it consuming all the speed while they're using it. If that's true then it's a stupid move from Microsoft imo.

By the way, wasn't the deal to give it for free for all users of Windows 7 and 8, alongside the insider preview users?

While I'm excited about Windows 10 like the next guy, I also happen to be an ardent fan of Windows 7. The last thing I want to do right now is test Windows 10 and have to deal with bugs and other issues. In fact, I'm going to wait and see if other users are satisfied with Window 10 before I decide to upgrade. While I believe Microsoft is listening to it's users and wants to provide the best possible OS, the proof is in the pudding.
