Microsoft’s Windows 10 comes with a crash warning, and the question is this – will this crash warning kick in if the number of items in the Start menu surpasses the 512 items mark? We ask this because it has been discovered that the Start menu in Windows 10 is unable to handle more than 512 items.
Do take note that we are talking about 512 items and not 512 applications here, as there is plenty of difference between the two. Apart from that “magical” figure, it also seems that the Start menu’s performance ends up as sloppy when there are over 512 items listed, with “symptoms” ranging from extended loading times to lag, missing apps, missing links, and multiple crashes.
There is only one known solution that works at the moment, and that would be to ensure that the number of items in the Start menu is reduced to less than 512.

This does look like a problem for people who have 512 items on their startmenu. But, 512 items does seem like a lot of stuff in the startmenu. I wonder does this bug also affect the applications section of the Startmenu where all the program shortcuts are located.
