According to the latest leaked build of Windows 8.1 (Blue), the Start button and menu will make their triumphant return — but they won’t look or work like the Windows 7 Start menu.

In related news, both sources confirm that Windows 8.1 will allow you to boot straight to the desktop, avoiding the Metro interface entirely after logging in.

Good news for people who want the Start button, but not bringing back the desktop Start Menu seems kind of odd. Perhaps, MS would bring back the Start Menu in Windows 8.2-8.3.

I rather use the free Classic Shell startmenu startbutton program since it has both the Startmenu and Startbutton back in, and I can set Windows 8 to start to classic desktop if I wanted to. I can also disable those hot corners on the top, and bottom corners of the screen in Windows 8.

Plus, it also has themes to make it look like the Windows 98, XP, or 7/Vista startmenus.

Indeed, it is an improvement. I think once the Windows Startmenu comes back 8 would be as usable as 7 with a keyboard and mouse. The Startbutton is a good start, but I prefer the round Windows Startbutton from Vista and 7.

There's a full screen All Apps/Programs and the Start Screen in Windows 8 which is like the Startmenu, but in full screen like the All Apps program in Android, and Smartphones instead of the left bottom corner startmenu which takes up a corner when open in Windows 7/Vista.

Windows 8 can suck it. Sticking with 7 start button or not. Windows 7 is the best OS released from Microsoft since Windows XP.

I been using Windows 8.1 for a few days since it got release last week, and 8.1 is actually pretty good. I can set 8.1 to start to desktop mode instead of the new touchbased startmenu.

In the StartScreen there is an "All Apps and Program" button on the bottom right to show all the installed programs, and Windows 8 apps installed on a PC.

The Windows 8.1 App Store also seem more easy to use than before.

Windows 8.1 performance is also pretty fast on my computer with 1GB of RAM, and a Dual Core CPU compared to 7 which seems to be slower because of the low amount of RAM installed on my PC.
