I'm not sure I would want a swimming Betta Fish swimming on my screen when I search Bing.com in Windows 8 or any other OS. But, I guest most gold fish and betta fish owners will like this animation.

Would Animated backgrounds and pictures be the future of websites?

ehhh no. if on internet connection it can cause lag. on the PC it can hog resources.

Maybe it can be a Bing App for Windows 8 which lets you search Bing.com from an desktop App.

I think if your PC is fast enough to run Windows 8 which will need a faster computer to run, the increase in system resources won't be noticeable especially if it is made with HTML5 video.

But, I'll see a lot of bosses might block Bing since the workers might be distracted by animated backgrounds.

at first maybe, but with time the animation can become a problem specially if something big was animated or someone ran a huge resource hog like a game or movie.

I think only Bing and its employees can change the animation, so the user will be stuck with the default fish or smaller animation. Plus, once people search Bing, the fish animation will be gone, and be replaced by Bing Search results for websites.

But, I see some webmasters might start using Background video on their own forum and blog which use a bigger video file which can lag video.

There is a software called Deskscape which let you have animated wallpaper in Windows XP to 7. http://www.stardock....cts/deskscapes/ I used it, and it works pretty well, and does not slow down my computer .

VLC also has a feature which let you set a video file as your desktop wallpaper.
