Do you think that Windows live messenger is going down? Apparently nobody uses it anymore.

If you try to sign into a Window Live Messenger client it just tells you to download Skype. Then it transfers your WLM name to a Skype name (or merges your WLM account with your Skype account if you have one already).

You can still sign in through 3rd party clients (like Trillian or Pidgin) but they'll only work until sometime early 2014 when microsoft shuts that down too.

So yeah, WLM is pretty much dead.

I think that the change to Skype is quite good. I mean there is only so much time the developers can give to Windows Live Messenger. Skype is better these days and easier to use I reckon.

I'm uncomfortable with Skype now since it has a door to let the US government spy in on your chat and video audio chats according to many articles online like this one: Skype Provided Backdoor Access to the NSA Before Microsoft Takeover [NYT]

It appears that US intelligence agencies have insisted that local software companies must cooperate closer with the NSA, so it asked several top vendors, including Skype, to put together secret teams to develop systems that would provide them with backdoor access to users’ conversations.

I always wondered why whenever I signed in it would give me the message of "failed to sign in to Windows live messenger".

Thanks to this topic I now know lol.

I always ignored it since I never used it anyway.

Passing notes written in Invisible ink which becomes visible with a light is the best way to pass notes without anyone reading it since you can rip the note into many pieces, or put it in a paper shredder.
