I rarely use Windows Media Player unless I'm using the school, friends, or someone else's computer. I mostly use GOM Player, VLC Player, and SMplayer for video files, and I use Foobar2000 music player for music and audio files.
I use it every now and then but otherwise I use Winamp on my laptop and TuneIn Radio, the stock Android music player and other music apps like IHeartRadio and Pandora on my devices.
The version of Winamp for Android is pretty good. I like that Winamp has the Shoutcast and AOL Online Radio Directory built-in, so I can easily listen to online radio which broadcast on Shoutcast for free for anyone to listen to.
Winamp for Android is good for Shoutcast, but when it comes to media management, and playback, it sucks. The only reason I used it was because I wasn't aware of how good the stock Android music player was. Once I realized that, I uninstalled Winamp and installed TuneIn Radio for the Shoutcast as well as Internet Radio and used IHR for the broadcast radio and the channels that TuneIn Radio doesn't have.
I have the K-lite codec installed on both my PCs and it installs windows media player classic which allows me to play any type of media extension. And if it does have a problem a upgrade to the codec fixes it.
I still use it after all these years, I've found the aftermarket programs to be over complicated and pretty annoying. I don't really like all the work you have to do on iTunes, etc just to get the same results as WMA. I personally just want to hear my music with none of the extra hoops and bells. Winamp is okay, but just to much. I am a musician and have never needed any other codecs, but i mainly only use wav. or mp3.
I still use Windows Media player. I just download all the codecs so it can play all the different formats such as .mp4 and it plays just fine. I don't really see a need in another media player.
Yeah. When I bring my computer to places where I don't have internet access, I'll typically listen to music via Windows Media Player. It's easy to use, and I like making playlists.
Can't remember when the last time I used it. I keep it and the necessary codecs on deck so in-case I need to watch something that doesn't work with VLC Media Player, it'll be ready and already set up. I can tell you this though, I rarely if ever use REAL PLAYER. I have it installed, but I never use it.
