Today at MIX 2010, Microsoft revealed their plans for a new app distribution service for Windows Phone 7 Series, known as the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. In addition to the new app store, Microsoft also gave a glimpse of gaming on the platform. The platform's integrated Xbox Live support has been a significant area of interest for the new mobile OS, but up until now Microsoft has been relatively quiet about how games will function.

Microsoft has confirmed that, multiplayer support for Windows Phone 7 Series games will remain exclusively, turn-based. While the XNA Games Studio software enables developers to create games that can be played on both the Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7-powered phones, gameplay will not be in real-time to maintain a fluid experience between smart phone and console players; the thought process being that mobile players would face too many interruptions while on-the-go. Moreover, real-time network communication for multiplayer play would likely kill a handset's battery life.

Microsoft also demoed Achievement integration into Windows Phone 7 Series this afternoon, which will contribute to a player's total Xbox Live gamerscore. Those without an Xbox 360 can sign up for Xbox Live through Windows Phone 7, and many account features can be found within the operating system.

Additionally, we've learned a bit more about the developers currently working on games for the platform, which include Sega, EA, Konami, and Microsoft Game Studios.
