Although Microsoft's Windows Phone event sadly didn't include revealing any new devices, they did pull back the curtains on the newest version of the Windows Phone 7 operating system, bringing along "500 new features" and, most importantly, multitasking.

Those familiar with Windows Phone 7 are likely aware of their unique Metro UI that is built using minimalistic tiles to deliver information to the user. Mango greatly enhances this feature by integrating more apps like Twitter and Linkedin to their repertoire, allowing you to view even more updates without having to jump into a single application.

In addition, Mango will allow you to create contact groups, resulting in a one-stop-shop for your friends' Facebook status updates, Tweets, pictures and text messages. Communication within the groups is also available using Windows Live Messenger and Facebook Chat. Once you have your groups set up, you can add them to your homescreen to see everybody's activity at-a-glance.

New voice-to-text features were also displayed, giving you to the ability to have text messages read to you and allowing you to reply and send without needing to type anything in. Speaking of typing, the virtual keyboard has also been improved and now includes text prediction.

As far as web browsing, Internet Explorer 9 – the "leading desktop browser," according to Microsoft – is being implemented in the Mango update and will provide the devices with HTML5 support. Unsurprisingly, Bing is along for the ride, as well as a feature called App Connect, which lets you link searches to specific apps.

Microsoft is aware of how anxious you are for the Mango update, stating that "This is a very big release, and one that will be worth waiting for... but we're not going to make you wait."
