The release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for Xbox 360 has been pushed back to the first quarter of 2012.
It should be noted that the game isn't a straightforward port of the PC version; it's been described as "an adaptation of the game to the new platform." Consequently, signficant changes and improvements are being made to the game, which are being cited as a reason for the new release date.
"The extra time will allow us to polish the title to perfection," says Adam Kicinski, President of CD Projekt RED S.A.
CD Projekt RED also cites the ongoing legal dispute with Namco Bandai – The Witcher 2's PC distributor – as a reason for the delay. The dispute centres on distribution rights for the Xbox 360 version of the game in Western Europe, Central and South America and Asia-Pacific. Namco Bandai has allegedly refused to pay over 1 million euros in agreed fees to the developer, citing disputes over breach of contract and DRM.
"We have decided not to withhold information and to tell our fans immediately of the Xbox 360 launch moving to Q1 2012," says Adam Kicinski, President of CD Projekt RED. "As the launch of the game approaches, we will be sharing more details how it will be released on Xbox 360. I trust that despite the release date shift, players will be satisfied with what we are planning for them."
