Wonder-Woman-Without-Pants-And-With-Pants.jpg

Check out the new Wonder Woman costume above. That's her on the left... and you'll notice she's wearing pants. After nearly seven decades of fighting crime in a swimsuit and boots, the female superhero will appear in issue #600 next week with her legs covered.

Along with the new duds, Wonder Woman is getting a new, tougher image. She'll have a darker backstory--no more Paradise Island--so her clothes need to show it off.

"It reflects her origins in both the outside world and the world of Amazons: tough, elegant...a street-fighter’s look which also incorporates elements of her classic design," incoming series writer J. Michael Straczynski told the Cristian Science Monitor. "It reflects the two sides warring for ultimate victory, and underscores the path she must take."

I think this is a horrible development. Sure, it's patently ridiculous to fight crime in a pair of bootie shorts, but so is an invisible jet. Wonder Woman's loopy charm practically depends on a lack of pants.

Then there's the backstory -- I know dark, conflicted heroes "sell" in today's world, but can't we have any heroes who aren't all troubled and broody? I'll take a peppy do-gooder in hot pants over some tortured, punk-rock chick any day of the week... besides, there's one real Wonder Woman in my heart, and her name is Lynda Carter. No-pants was good enough for Lynda, and it should be good enough for this new, modern Wonder Woman.

I'm sorry, but that is just ruining Wonder woman's image.

I agree.. it seems kind of odd. If Rhianna (who I love btw) can wear underwear in nearly all of her videos, why can't Wonder Woman keep her original costume?

I have only watch a few episodes from the original series, I was very young then so I don't remember anything beyond that, but there is nothing wrong with her original costume, and I don't know why they had to change it.

I hope they don't also take out the violence in the new Wonder Woman Comics and TV show. I don't think Batman, Wonder woman, and super man are very suitable for kids who are 1-5 since they have a lot of violent themes.

Most likely they wouldn't remove violence 100% from the shows. There wouldn't be any need to watch the shows, if this happens...

Also, children from the age range of 1 to 5 might be a sleep when this show is showing on television. Or, they might be watching some baby show. When my baby cousin was young, this is what she did.

Maybe they are trying to focus more on who the character is rather than the sex appeal of the character, which is a good thing to do.
I do agree though, that they shouldn't change the costume. You should never change the original costume.
