According to Activision’s latest financial report, it would seem that Blizzard actually saw an increase in subscribers, with the number of active World of Warcraft gamers set at 7.8 million which is up by 200,000 from back in September 2013 where it was reported to be at 7.6 million.

Apart from an increase in World of Warcraft subscribers, Blizzard has also announced that they managed to sell an additional 1 million copies of Diablo 3 this quarter, totalling 15 million copies sold to date.

200000 user increase for a older MMO game like WoW is a lot of users. This prove paid MMORPG like WoW are still popular, and growing because people are willing to pay a monthly subscription for playing good games they enjoy.

Amazing Diablo 3 still manages to sell over 15 million copies to date since Diablo 3 is an older game title now.

I wonder what caused the increase, perhaps some young gamers coming of age?

I read recently there was a new game expansion pack for World of Warcraft which add new features. Perhaps, people also have more money these days to spend on the subscription fee.

World of Warcraft is also free to play until you reach level 20, and a lot of the paid features like voice chat are disable in the free version. according to http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/28/play-world-of-warcraft-for-free-forever-with-the-new-endless-trial-mode/ .

More people in China, India, and other countries now have high speed internet  these days instead of slower dial-up, so I think there are many people who want to play online MMORPG like WoW because their internet is now fast enough for WoW, and they can afford to play WoW.
