I disagree e.eeverything said so far plus anything paid. You really shouldn't have to pay for your AV.
I also disagree. You should have to pay for your antivirus because there's nobody out there who works for free, and keeping track of the latest internet threats every single day is a tough job. If I have money, I always prefer to buy a licensed antivirus than use a free one.You really shouldn't have to pay for your AV.

However, you can survive with just a bit of common sense and Microsoft Security Essentials or Malwarebyes.

What ads do they make money off? Besides avast!, I don't know other antivirus programs that have ads on them (except for ads for their own company, that nag you to buy the full licensed product).and they do make money off of ads and their other products.
I don't get it. What missing files? What are you talking about? Avira is one of the best out there.Probably avira.
I had to format the entire stuff thanks to the missing files of avira.

Well, the application isn't complete and when I tried to install some other program it gave me a warning that the avira files are still present. It was a mess.I don't get it. What missing files? What are you talking about? Avira is one of the best out there.
I am not 100 % certain about that, a buddy had fully updated essentials but he lost his credentials etc due to virus/bot-net attacks. I suggested him Bit-defender, it just resolved every issue after a complete scan.I heard Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are not very good because of their low virus detection rate, and slow performance on slower Windows PC.
